Assisted Listening SystemsIn accordance with the American Disabilities Act, various Assisted Listening Systems are installed and being added to classrooms across campus. |
|||||||
| Classrooms with more than 49 seats
are required to be equipped with an assisted listening system. The systems currently
being installed use infrared. Some older systems still exist on campus which use radio
signals. Equipment Services can provide headsets to individual students needing the use of this system. These can be checked out from our main offices at the Martin Luther King Building. For a listing of rooms equipped with assisted listening systems: Rooms on the Web. Closed CaptioningAll televisions manufactured or sold in the United States since the mid-90s are equipped with a Closed Captioning decoder system. This means any program picked up by the television can be shown with captioning, assuming the program signal is encoded with this information. If you are faculty or a student requiring closed captioning in a classroom equipped with one of our televisions, please call Equipment Services and we will enable that option on the television. Unfortunately the multimedia classrooms do not have this capability. Additional steps are being taken. Portable and fixed decoders have been purchased. Below is a list of our multimedia classrooms which have fixed closed captioning decoders.
In the mean time, if a student needs closed captioning please call Equipment Services and we will find a solution. If you need further assistance please contact the Disability Resource Center 621-3268 (V/TTY) |
