Multimedia Equipment Instructions

In general, most of the multimedia classrooms on campus that we maintain require that equipment be turned on in a particular order. If you use the following instructions below as a guide much of the confusion can be avoided.  Does the room have a videocamera stand/ELMO?  If so, continue reading.  If not, skip to the bottom for different instructions.

To show video…

  1. Turn on the videocamera stand/ELMO (VCS).
  2. Turn on the videocassette recorder (VHS).
  3. Turn on the laserdisc player (VDP).
  4. Turn on the video projection unit (VPU) with the remote control from the cabinet. Point the remote at the projector and push the "power" button.
  5. Switch the video projection unit (VPU) to its video input. Point the remote at the projector and push the "source" button. Toggle the projector to its "video1" input.
  6. If you want to show a videotape, press the button on the front of the video camera stand labeled "VHS."
  7. If you want to show a laserdisc, press the button on the front of the video camera stand labeled "VDP."
  8. If you want to use the video camera stand, press the button on the front of the video camera stand labeled "VCS."
  9. Operate the videocassette recorder (VHS) and laserdisc player (VDP) as you would your home units.

To show computer…

  1. Turn on the video projection unit (VPU) with the remote control from the cabinet. Point the remote at the projector and push the "power" button.
  2. Switch the video projection unit (VPU) to its computer input. Point the remote at the projector and push the "source" button. Toggle the projector to its "RGB1" input.
  3. Plug the cable labeled "computer"; into the appropriate jack on the back of your computer. If you are using a MacIntosh computer attach the provided adapter to the cable (see projector/computer interfacing).
  4. Turn on your computer.

To hear audio…

  1. Turn the knob labeled "volume" on the rack panel until the appropriate audio level is reached.

 

2nd Instruction Set

If you skipped down to this set of instructions then your multimedia classroom does not have a videocamera stand (ELMO).

To show video…

  1. Turn on the videocassette recorder (VHS).
  2. Turn on the video projection unit (VPU) with the remote control from the cabinet. Point the remote at the projector and push the "power" button.  In some rooms this button is clearly labeled in others its color coded (i.e. red or blue).
  3. Switch the video projection unit (VPU) to its video input. Point the remote at the projector and push the "source" button.  If there is no "source" button look for a button labeled "video."  Toggle the projector to its "video1" input.
  4. The signal from the videocassette recorder will be projected onto the screen.
  5. Operate the videocassette recorder (VHS) as you would your home unit.

To show computer…

  1. Turn on the video projection unit (VPU) with the remote control from the cabinet. Point the remote at the projector and push the "power" button.  In some rooms this button is clearly labeled in others its color coded (i.e. red or blue).
  2. Switch the video projection unit (VPU) to its computer input. Point the remote at the projector and push the "source" button. Toggle the projector to its "RGB1" input.  If there is no "source" button look for a button labeled "computer."
  3. Plug the provided computer cable into the appropriate jack on the back of your computer. If you are using a MacIntosh computer attach the provided adapter to the cable (see projector/computer interfacing).
  4. Turn on your computer.

To hear audio…
